I was probably ten years old when my mother’s voice echoed through the house saying, “Close your legs!” She casually said this like it was a simple truth that needed to be heard. I then learned that ladies do not sit with their legs spread wide apart.
It took me years to realize that boys were not held to the same standards as girls.
And yet, even after so many years, I still can’t imagine myself sitting in public, legs apart, no matter how outrageous and stupid I think this attitude towards girls and women may be.
